Police identify man shot dead in Scarborough; 1 charged, 1 suspect outstanding
Toronto police have identified a 23-year-old man shot dead in a Scarborough townhouse complex on Monday night.
Shakur Clarke-Sargeant, of Toronto, died at the scene, according to Det.-Sgt. Phil Campbell, of Toronto police's homicide and missing persons unit.
One person has been arrested and charged with first-degree murder, while another suspect is outstanding, Campbell told reporters on Tuesday. Police have not identified either suspect or provided a description of the second suspect.
"We believe there was planning and deliberation," Campbell said.
A number of residents have told CBC Toronto that Clarke-Sargeant was an east-end rapper who went by the name Ytn Paco.
2 suspects fled before officers arrived, police say
The shooting happened in the complex in the area of Kingston and Galloway roads. Police were called to the area for a report of a shooting at about 10:20 p.m.
When officers arrived, they found a man with gunshot wounds. Toronto paramedics tried to save his life, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Both suspects fled the scene before police arrived, he said.
Campbell declined to comment on whether the suspects and victim knew each other or whether a firearm has been recovered.
Residents in the area should expect an increased police presence as officers continue to canvas for evidence.
"I can appreciate that any shooting in any neighborhood is a concern," Campbell said.
"I can assure you that we are dedicating any necessary resources to conduct a thorough investigation. We are asking anyone who may have seen something to say something."
Anyone who witnessed anything or who has cell phone or surveillance camera video is being urged to contact police.
