the question is real. still feel like people are in denial about what is happening. like those retards who were still saying the internet was a 'fad' in like '98.

Yeah I think this is worse than the internet case though. Internet is obviously massively important, but AI is an even deeper technological shift. The internet externalized communication to a massive degree above all other previous media. But intelligence is upstream of every other capability. Thinking Machines are in an entirely new category of technology IMO.

yeah I agree. but also the naysaying feels different this time. with the internet it felt like much of the naysaying was basically just "that's for Nerds and Losers, will never be part of normie life". Now the internet is for everyone and Nerds and Losers are pushed into deep internet extremely online territory early on. AI dismissal often feels more performative and defensive. like it is people afraid to say it's significant, because they want to sound above-it-all and are afraid people will think they are dumb if they seem too impressed by it. maybe that's why AI is especially hated on in midwit spaces.

Yeah a lot of people were comparing the internet to CB radio back in the 1990s.. but AI is definitely not CB radio or any higher form of it

America will have the roughest go of it because there are so many bullshit "knowledge worker" jobs here. We literally can't imagine a society where people don't go to college to type on screen.

I don't think we will actually eliminate jerbs though, humans are just too tribal and vain in general they will find a way to pretend they are still being useful. I think more likely is AI just makes screen typing jobs easy as FUUURK and people just are pushing buttons and have AI do work while having endless meetings where people brag about the stuff "they" are "doing". Obviously some will be eliminated but not a huge amount. Also I agree that for thing-doing jobs AI isn't really a risk. Knowledge-work jobs are just going to get easier and gayer.

I thought he's only laying off like 10%? It's probably workable in principle. Codex is insanely good now, so in terms of tasks its workable. I think half might be difficult because you still need humans who know wtf is going on with the company and product in order to have an "organization" that large.

We will need the Treasury Secretary or whatever to call in all those fags and say "look we get it, you can lay off some white guys and true losers but don't think you can go cutting 80% of ur jobs"

"tasks" are already mostly just for Losers and Nerds anyway. some people do actual production but most of "work" is just a social system of people endlessly talking and managing risk and defending territory. someone can do a code review in 5 min instead of 6 hours and nothing really changes. the "meetings" will just be longer. the percent they are laying off is probably just the amount needed to offset token costs.
