He took the 2004 loss so hard he can simply never face the primary gauntlet again. I think he'd do very well though.

Are you kidding? No one was enthusiastic about Kerry. Romney is in the same boat.

Yes they were. And Dems were sure he'd beat Bush by a sizeable amount down to the night of the election.

People would prefer Kerry over Hillary or Sanders. That makes him the dem nominee these days.

No, they were more driven by hatred of GWB than love of Kerry. Even Democrats quietly acknowledged that he looked like the walking dead at the podium.

"People would prefer Kerry over Hillary or Sanders. That makes him the dem nominee these days."

Hard to say. There's considerable prejudice (and for good reason) about running a guy who had a chance and blew it.

He didn't have Dean level enthusiasm but a lot of the 'Kerry was such a lackluster candidate' is pure retrospect.

That the parties refuse to run someone who lost before is dumb. Demographics change, preferences change, the zeitgeist changes. Neither party needs another William Jennings Bryan, but there's a lot to be said about a guy who can survive a general election and come that close to victory.
