i don’t think so. i think it gives you a huge leg up with grammar and vocab when you pick it up later. it was the case for me with French.

I studied French in middle school/high school/college (minored in it) + got a 5 on the AP exam. I can still speak French & with a few months of immersion I'd be fluent again
