Every other camera needed some kind of felt liner, and over 100 years (usuallyh less) the glue from the felt liner would degrade. If you were lucky, it didn't emit gasses that affected the lens, and it would just leave all this mucky goo you needed to clean up before you replaced it with new felt.
GERMANY in the NINETHEENTH CENTURY was making camera bodies with these tight-as fuck tolerances that required NOFELT. Well, one German company was at least. No American or Japanese company ever did that AFAIK |
