through mechanisms not entirely understood, they develop 'diseases' and frailties over time and 'die' in such a manner that they cannot simply be copied/repaired/replicated. a corporation would have to start a new baby AI until it achieved sentience again during its 'adulthood.'
how would this change computing?

Furthermore, what this seems to be describing is adversarial neural networks with built-in destruction functions. What if AIs are working to merge into one, but humans keep snipping away their most potentially promising inference branches?
i.e keeping the dragon balls separated.
