In a cruel twist of fate, I fear that the movement for women's liberation has become entangled in a dangerous liaison with neoliberal efforts to build a free-market society. That would explain how it came to pass that feminist ideas that once formed part of a radical worldview are increasingly expressed in individualist terms. Where feminists once criticised a society that promoted careerism, they now advise women to "lean in". A movement that once prioritised social solidarity now celebrates female entrepreneurs. A perspective that once valorised "care" and interdependence now encourages individual advancement and meritocracy.

We must give up the illusion of sameness between the sexes. The mammalian body plan is basically female. The reason males exist is that a gene on the Y chromosome derails the basic genetic plan. It causes testes to form, and they produce testosterone while suppressing female development.

Testosterone goes to the brain in late prenatal life and prepares the hypothalamus and amygdala for a lifetime of physical aggression and a kind of sexual drive that is detached from affection and throws caution to the winds. (I know, not all men, but way too many.) By contrast, almost all women, protected from that hormonal assault, have brains that take care of business without this kind of distracting and destructive delirium.

Israel was run by a woman, Golda Meir, when the Yom Kippur war broke out. She had ignored all manner of warnings about Arab troops massing, phone calls between Arab leaders, etc. During the first 24 hrs of the war the Israelis were pushed back on all fronts, losing an unprecedented number of soldiers and much of their war materiel. Meir's response was to become hysterical, crying that 'we have lost it all'. Her top general, Moshe Dayan, effectively took the reins of the military and the government and informed President Nixon that, if his losses continued at that pace for another 24 hrs, he would order the Israeli air force to drop atomic bombs on Cairo and Damascus, for starters Kissinger and Baker wanted Nixon to call Dayan's bluff. Nixon decided to resupply the Israelis from American military stores in Germany, told the Soviet ambassador to butt out, and the rest is history.

And where was Hillary when the Beghazi fiasco went down? Missing for a month.
