You can lose weight eating nothing other than chocolate cake as long as calories burned is greater than calories consumed. Substituting carb calories for protein calories (or whatever fad diet is popular at the moment) will not do shit if the number of calories consumed is the same.
The best way to lose weight is to set a daily calorie target (somewhere in the range of 1200-1600 depending on how fast you want to lose weight) and never go over it. Keep a food journal where you track the calories for everything you eat. If you follow that regime, you will lose weight. It's simple physics. Most people try to cut carbs or fat without reducing calories and/or exercise for 30 minutes and use that as an excuse for a double portion of dessert, so they stay fat. |

Second, extreme fasting is a bad idea for various reasons. Set a daily caloric target. Most experts suggest somewhere between 1200 and 1600. Then keep a diary where you carefully keep track of the calories in everything you eat and make sure you don't exceed that limit. The diary is crucial.
