WFH is a great example of this. Almost everyone prefers WFH, but it's also pretty clearly awful for your mental health.
It's easier t owatch something on Netflix than to go to the movie theater. It's better to get food delivered to your porch and eat it on your couch that to go to a restaurant. Everyone prefers to text their friends than call them. You meet people on dating apps instead of going out to bars.
All these little improvements in our life have made us miserable. |

But now there is a smartphone-based service for everything that used to just be part of living a normal life. And all that people seem to love doing is endlessly scrolling. But not because they actually love it, rather it's because the smartphone has removed so much of actual life from the world. And what remains is but a husk.
It doesn't mean a person can't be happy, but it requires a meaningfully concerted effort to replicate a more analogue life. |
