And also the reason the entire thing "worked" to begin with is they based the entire thing on the assumption that the Universe is "smooth" based on the idea that if you zoom far enough out it's true, but then every time a new "void" was found because they built a bigger telescope they would just move the "far enough" line further back. Until it turns out that we are probably sitting in the middle of a giant void where the light is being "stretched" in ways that aren't being accounted for. The way "the scientific process" is supposed to work is not to make stuff up for decades until the entire thing comes crashing down. At first, these two different measurement techniques had a lot of overlap in their results, but as they've gotten more precise over the years, the difference became too large to explain as just an insignificant statistical blip.
This is important only if you take cosmology seriously, which you shouldn't, because it's a shitty, flimsy, and weak field of "science." |
