The main thing is that we believe in freedom of speech, right to self defense, have some form of popular representation, and a delegation to the king the power of things like eminent domain. What made eminent domain unique in the American context was only that much of the land was unowned, so the government could not claim original title. But German authors had already contemplated that scenario 100 years earlier and reasoned their way out of that box. The Lockean shit about putting land under private ownership to generate surplus was already taken for granted in Germany.
