Randomly stumbled upon a Reddit AMA he did recently. http://www.reddit.com/r/IAmA/comments/fwpzj/iama_74time_jeopardy_champion_ken_jennings_i_will/

He seems legitimately modest and he basically kills it in _every_ reply he gives.

EDIT: Meant "Ken" obviously.

the few mormons i've met irl have been really nice but a little...off.

in korea i worked w this mormon dude from byu who was like 28 because he'd done his missionary thing. everyone else i worked w was convinced that he had a crush on me and would torment me non-stop. anyway this bro was nice but weird. he'd corner you and start lecturing yo about the peace of westphalia or something... like randomly. and he wouldn't stop until his little spiel was done. weirdest thing ever. he was so nice though that no one wold tell him how we felt about him.

I actually just watched the clip of him winning today (resulting from Jennings Googling). Easily the most alpha game show moment of all time.

Though it was sort of surprising the last question was that easy.

that had to have been fixed. it's statistically impossible that no former jeopardy champ had won more than a handful of games in a row in the 25 year run of the show, and then this guy shows up and runs a clinic for 70 days straight.

no, the jeopardy producers orchestrated it as a publicity stunt; because, if you recall, at the time "Who Wants to be a Millionaire" had stolen jeopardy's thunder, making jeopardy look comparatively small-stakes and uninteresting (compare its average champion's haul of like 45K to winning a cool Million dollars).

For most of Jeopardy's run you could only appear 5 times before being retired. They changed the rule around a year before Ken went on his run. I'm not sure what the longest run has been since.

Networks aren't gonna fuck around with fixing gameshows anymore after what happened in the '50s I don't think.

this doesn't argue against me.

they wanted the publicity for several reasons having to do with WWTBAM: the jeopardy brand had been tarnished, ratings had dropped; plus they saw that there was a far greater potential audience for quiz shows than they had previously believed, but only if they provided audiences with big money stakes and drama (Will Ken keep the streak alive?! Tune in tonight and find out!), etc.

it was a ratings bonanza for them.

Why hasnt anything close to it happened since?

In decades of running this show, they didnt realize high stakes and drama helped boost ratings?

What you're missing is that each game he became harder to beat. He got better and better with the buzzer. If you're smarter than everyone and are going to ring in first whenever everyone knows the answer because you've gotten completely acclimated with the buzzer timing, it's going to be really hard to beat you.
