my landlord's yard has two large sycamore trees that shed 30+ bags worth of leaves every year. I use my obnoxious leaf blower like two times per year. I have a dewalt battery one for everyday shit and only use it a handful of times per month.

My boomer neighbor loves his gas leaf blower, though. He's out there everyday with it.

buying lawn tools from a hand tool maker is the ultimate prole tell. an ego or some other lawn tool that actually uses real batteries would shit all over your little dewalt pissclit. i have the ego 880cfm 200mph and it's an absolute cannon. i dual wield it with an older model and go around DECIMATING leaves with twin blasts like a warhammer 40k space marine. together they put out so much force that I have to lean forward when I walk.

the ONLY reason I went with dewalt is because I have a ton of their batteries already. I spent like $150 on the tool and had all of the batteries already. Batteries are the most expensive component, so it makes sense to stick to a single product line. I wish I would've chosen milwaukee.

you're choosing between two respected hand tool makers who both make shitty lawn tools. the milwaukee would not be better, or only marginally so. it's the same thing either way -- you're paying for your favorite brand/color, but the compact batteries used for impact drivers aren't suitable for big outdoor jobs.

I use the 60V/9Ah batteries, which are different from the small ones. My angle grinder, sawzall, circular saw, etc. all use that same one.

lmao, you don't even know how your own batteries work. the 9ah is only supplied when those batteries run at 20v. for your lawn tool purposes, they are only 3ah when running at 60v. they must be intolerable to use for any high-drain tool like a leaf blower.

I actually did not know that. The packaging etc is incredibly misleading.

But "Ah" is a measure of capacity, voltage isn't. It just means I go through four batteries to leaf blow my yard. At 60V, you get 1/3 of the capacity at 9A

at first I thought he was suggesting that the leafblower is only operating at 20V which isn't the case. It's 60V but you're not getting 9Ah of 60V, you're getting 3.

voltage actually is a component of calculating capacity. AH is meaningless without knowing the voltage. AH multiplied by voltage (watt hours) is what tells you how much juice a battery really has. So an ego 7.5ah 56v battery is actually 2.33x as powerful as your dewalt (which gives 9ah at 20v or 3ah at 60v).

The market for pre-pandemic-made items is already heating up. If you have an "old" washer, dryer, dishwasher, fridge, shoes, clothing, and the like, you better care for that stuff like it's a newborn baby because it is never getting manufactured again. The schematics for old stuff have been torched also, it actually CANNOT be made. Who's left around that knows how to? Do not buy new appliances.

100%

I will *never* buy another kitchenaid product after going through two of their "professional" models which were nothing more than plastic encased in a light aluminum shell to make it look "durable". KitchenAid sold the fuck out when it took over from Hobart, which was the original manufacturer of the military-grade mixers that last 50+ years. The hat-wearing suitmen were NOT fond of this business model.

I just called them back to bitch them out for the flat out lie that they'd call me back in 10 minutes. I finally spoke to someone competent and he said he'll have someone look at it immediately and they'll "take care" of me. I'm not getting my hopes up.

They already fixed it. Just picked it up now.

See, assholes? Sometimes it pays to be a complete prick.

The best part was that the service line was insanely long, like 20 people. Some boomer cut in front of me claiming he was in line but had to go get his lawn mower. I let him. then I got out of line, bought another tool, and cut to the front.

That same boomer was still in line as I left. He gave me this dirty look when he came out well after me.

So in this super true irl story you’re telling us you completed your business inside the went outside and hung around long enough to receive a dirty boomer glare well after you could have gone home. Is that right?

no. I had to wait outside to pick up my lawnmower and he shot me the dirty look when he saw me outside picking up my shit before everyone else.

From the pictures it looks like two drive belts have come off, a toothed one and a small one. Is there anything else wrong? Drive belts should be user replaceable, though why did it come off is a valid question. What does the cable you are holding do?

the toothed one is the timing belt & the blades need to be perfectly synced to that The cable I'm holding is what engages the pulley that engages the drive belt for the blades themselves. that one was sheared off.

They didn't know why it came off. Very likely it was just a manufacturing defect.

Too bad. Those cables are fragile. I bought my son a Troy-bilt that had similar problems. No timing belt, fortunately.

yeah, I was disappointed to learn that this thing had a timing belt. it wasn't something I had even considered existing on a lawnmower. Now I have to treat this thing like an antique car when I just wanted it to be used like a lawnmower. Hopefully, this is just a one-time fluke, but I don't think it will be.

Skill issue or shitty trash filled yard issue

I bought the same mower in 2022, use it very heavily, and it’s been a beast - no issues and worth every penny

Then it was clearly a manufacturing defect. I have a small yard and don't use it heavily.

if you have any student loan debt left you should NOT be buying a $1700 lawnmower.
