Israel-based web development company Wix is slashing roughly 20% of its workforce, CEO Avishai Abrahami announced in a post on X early Thursday morning, citing the “fast evolution of AI capabilities” and difficulties around currency exchange rates.

I thought I needed it to vibecode a website, but it actually sucks at that so I cancelled my subscription during the free trial. Total shitshow and a massive waste of time

this is blatant "AI washing" of the layoffs. not even very good AI washing. the weakness in their business around the FX rates is the real culprit. alarm bells should sound extra loud for investors when companies AI wash their layoffs

This isn't surprising. They're a company that helps people make websites.

AI is really good at making websites.

I don't think this means anything for the job market at large. But obviously basic coders, graphic designers, and copywriters are fucked.
