My kid is in second grade and the unofficial room moms make planning shit for these kids their job because they have no other life and its their only kid.
The classes switch between two teachers, so there's 40ish kids between the classes. Two moms said they were planning an end of year party with a bounce house and ice cream, and asked literally every family to contribute $100. They said the money leftover will be an end of year gift to the teachers.
This is a public school, and I would guess 10-30% of these kids are on free lunch (I would guess 50+% of the class is relatively well off). But multiple people in the group chat have previously alluded to being poor (a mom asking for a ride because she doesn't have a reliable highway car, another saying she couldn't buy something for the Christmas party but would be happy to bake something, etc.)
Am I wrong for thinking this request is insane because:
1. Asking people (who may have multiple kids) to spend $100 for a fucking party in the park with their class is inconsiderate (they said if you can't pay you can text one of the moms and let them know - which is ttt).
2. Even if most of the money is going to the teacher gifts, that's bullshit because the two moms planning on it are going to take all the credit for the $3,000 or whatever they "raise."

lol, absurd for a public school.
We have $20 recommended and I donate $40 to cover another kid.
