weed and caffeine have a crazy intense interaction for me. maybe there's some other substance amping it up that you're not worried about because it's mild on its own.
I can wake up with trace amounts of weed in my system from the previous day that I don't feel anymore, have some caffeine, and be high.

it does, but the caffeine synergy is a documented thing actually. but more generally weed response is very individual and contextual, which is why there's all this broscience around strains and random cannabinoids that barely do shit on their own; anything can make a difference if it nudges you into the right mental state (activities make a big difference too).
CB1 is a unique retrograde receptor that's very widely distributed around the brain and undergoes rapid compensation to exogenous drugs (folding the cell membrane around itself to reduce exposure). and also THC gets metabolized to 11-Hydroxy-THC (which has MUCH higher binding affinity but isn't as strong an agonist) which is why an edible high can last forever, the compensatory factors don't do as much to it.
I think I'm a hyperresponder to weed because I have low baseline anandamide levels, which I should probably do something about through spiritual practice or some shit.
