This guy was a bigtime PE partner at kirkland. This is his $6M upstate NY house:
It appears that the IRS seized the house based on IRS liens totaling about $10M:

Simply failing to file also doesn't explain the $150K credit card debt default. |

I think when you get to those levels of making money, the only way to scratch the itch is to try to get to the "next level" of wealth. Even biglaw partners are basically capped at what they can earn, so gambling ever-increasing large sums is the only real way to get to a net work in the 9 figures.
at some point you just start chasing losses and it snowballs.
maybe this is pure psychobabble bullshit but I can't imagine what else it could be. that's a shitload of money to owe based on his income. |
