As such they were able to use older stock in their flagship products much more, whereas others didn't or removed age statements (e.g. Elijah Craigh). Kentucky Spirit (and all WT bourbons) come from the same mashbill, same distillation process, etc. They just select the best and most interesting barrels for KS and RB. Just like now WT101 tastes younger because the oldest stuff is going into premium products, so are the honey barrels.
All that to say: don't write WT101 off forever. It's "the same" as KS, just a blend. When supply catches up with demand, or demand for premium stuff fades, more of the barrels that would have been KS will be dumped into 101 blends. |
