I would rather not have to file at all I think the government should continue to collect deductions from paychecks and the deductions on interest at the bank since to the government every year.. and then just say there is no tax return necessary you're not going to be able to get these deductions from your paycheck and from your bank interest back from the government it's just kept by the government but you don't have to file a tax return on it. I do think everyone should be paying some tax as part of being a citizen and sharing the burden. But most people see taxes as a single thing and how it's broken down into SS/Medicare/Fed/State is irrelevant. If the feds stopped taxing anyone under 150k, most people would still be paying Ss/Medicare/State. So they'd still see themselves as paying taxes.
Maybe there is an argument in doing away with fed income tax for everyone below a certain threshold if we also shift more Fed burdens to the states? Would it be more cost effective? Open to persuasion either way. |
