Look at the Opus 4.8 system card from today if you don’t believe me. Anyway, it’s hard for me to imagine the government would even know how to do a competent safety review of these models. the experts that are familiar with LLMs are not working for the federal government. They also weren’t going to be stopping these models from being released because of their economic impact.
There are real concerns here but Trump not doing some sort of lame safety review of LLMs is not it. Most of human labor will be automated in our lifetimes and we should be thinking of a way to manage that. There is no realistic way to stop that from happening short of blowing up the fabs and existing datacenters. |
