It dawned on me at the end of the film that Paul's kids are mixed race and he married a Black woman. This must be an ode to that. This movie proves that if you're really talented you can make great art about anything no matter how absurd. Also after the opening scene most of the far left propaganda is thinly veiled and I bet 50% of the audience doesn't even know they're being preached to.

The right wing equivalent of this movie is if a high budget Hollywood film was about a cheerful romp through Nazi Germany. This was by far the most ideologically extreme left wing movie I have ever seen and somehow they actually managed to make it an enjoyable film.

I would argue that if you polled 10 people who voted it for Best Picture, you would get 10 different interpetrations of what the movie is about and 8 of them would be wrong.

I think the counter to that is that Anderson has proven himself to be a master film maker, and this is like when a great artist paints a picture of a square and calls it art to spark discussion.

It's not for me because i'm not really into watching dumb people do stupid things for 3 hours.

I think the Lockjaw performance / plotline is what ruins the movie for me. It's just clearly not real. So it was hard for me to get the humor of Leo getting fed up with the idiocy of the leftist movement when the group chasing them is called The Christmas Adventurers Club and Lockjaw doesn't exhibit any characteristics of a real human being. So the absurdity of Leo's plight goes unnoticed next to the absurdity of the the Lockjaw story line.

You're right about Lockjaw being cartoonish and unbelievable as well as the Christmas Adventurers club. I also felt like there were so many cringey references throughout the film. Benicio Del Toro as wise Latino guy helping la gente while being several clicks smarter than the dumb white guy (who is more or less a reprise of Joaquin Phoenix in Inherent Vice, i.e. we have seen this exact character before).

This is why I call the movie science fantasy. It's set in a nonsensical future world that doesn't exist where the fabric of reality is made by pure unadulterated wokeism. There is far left propaganda baked into every frame. The plot is also totally nonsensical. For instance if the government is fascist why do they need multiple layers of secret societies to be even more fascist? Also if America was run by turbo racist death squads wouldn't they just clear the place out, why would they rely on hot tips about where the sanctuary cities are? It's totally nonsensical as is the premise that a left wing terrorist group could operate successfully for so long without law enforcement ever looking into them.

So yeah it's no different than if you made a movie set in the Third Reich where the SS were plucky friends who just wanted to help you. The whole thing is delusional. That being said I enjoyed it as a popcorn flick of sorts and I think it ranks mid tier among PTA movies. Given such a bizarre slapstick premise he manages to land the plane somehow.

I was ready to go with the initial movie which appeared to be leftist factions fighting a war against a right wing fascist government (even if it was heavy handed). Like it was almost going to be analogous to the recent Civil War movie but more woke.

But that part is abandoned pretty quick and it was never clear to me what was going on. It's a facist racist government but there's a lot of minorities within the government? And obviously this chick and 60 million other minorities are going to high school and living a normal life, but then she has to be killed because she's mixed?
