I like the history of tank rounds, there's so much variety that I got really interested in the principle behind them. The weirdest round is probably HESH rounds imo, they're high explosive rounds with a very slight delay on them. The SH stands for squash head. The tip of the round deforms when it hits a target, and explodes when the round is perpendicular to the surface of whatever it strikes. This maximizes spalling, which is basically a shotgun like blast of shrapnel from the other side of the armor or whatever getting blasted off. It's not designed to penetrate, it's designed to kill the personnel inside. It's why most tanks and IFVs have an interior liner of Kevlar to catch the shrapnel.
