99% of the time you have clients where the parties fall within the normal guidelines, the algorithm spits out a number, the father shrieks and the mother chuckles.
But I have a case now where the father gets $800K per year in disbursements from his Indian tribe's casino. I represent the mother and the algorithm is capped so we stipped to $4,000 per month and my client is pissed.
Now I'm hearing that there may be a way around the cap (yes I know you can plead equity to deviate from guidelines, but you still want the algorithm to back up the number you are asking for).
Its a crazy case. She aborted two babies for cars. She wanted the babies, he didn't so he promised to buy her a car for each abortion. He financed them. Now they broke up and he doesn't want to pay for them anymore. Sorry, I digress, I shouldn't derail the thread.
CSLG may have fucked up by retaining a non-family law attorney. He has too much at stake. It really depends on the lawyer SHE hires. Divorces are marathons, not sprints. He still has time to wise up and protect himself but if she went the cheap route like he did (a high probability she hired a family friend or some stupid shit), then he'll be alright (they'll both fumble around and leave a ton of money on the able). |
