i thought it was funnier and zanier and less on the nose
i mean i'm not familiar with late 20th/early 21st century Korean politics so maybe that one was equally on the nose and I didn't have context, but there exchanges between plemons and stone about conspiracy theory this and online cancel culture that were just so 'haha of the moment' without actually having any meaning; they were hollow provocations, which is where I'm worried Lanthimos' work is headed overall (IMO he peaked with The Favourite)
It's a movie that's not as smart as it thinks it is for people who aren't as smart as they think they are; that said, for an 'entry level' bit of cult genre weirdness, it'll go down easier than Tetsuo or something
Plemons is incredible though (and Stav's bits were funny) |
