Mastering Cartesian logic was necessary to establish one's scholarly credentials going back to the 11th century, at least. Just because Descartes hasn't written anything yet didn't mean his ideas weren't already circulating. Literally everyone who wrote a famous tract on philosophy at that time only did that AFTER they wrote something demonstrating their mastery of logic. This happened in the East as well. Islamic philosophers had to demonstrate mastery of logic before anyone would listen to them.

But that doesn't mean mastery of logic is sufficient. Hardly anyone thought that. What actually happened is that Descartes was accused of being a Rosicrucian, so Descartes felt compelled to eliminate all traces of mysticism from his writings. This caused subsequent thinkers to also ignore/marginalize mystic traditions that once co-existed with rationalism, and by the time Kant was born it wasn't cool to talk about anything EXCEPT logic and reason. That's why he's such a drag to read
