Adult life has not been kind to some of the Chads from my hometown

In adolescence, he was one of the cool kids and was a great high school athlete. But he always had a rebellious streak. Always mocking authority, always seemed to have a chip on his shoulder. Unsurprisingly, he got into drugs. Eventually dropped out of college. I hadn't seen him in years. I thought he had grown up and turned his life around, but I guess I was wrong.
Anyway, I started thinking. There was a core group of about 10 cool jocks at my high school. Of these, 3 have died. That 30% death rate is about five times higher than it should be for our age. |

If you separate the population that was proudly stupid—all non-honors classes, typically had the most basic bitch preferences in music/movies/TV, either didn’t go to college or went to shit schools that existed to steal their parents money—the rates of death, obesity, bankruptcy, living with their parents past 30 and incarceration are probably roughly equivalent to what the median outcome is for inner city blacks in violent shithole neighborhoods with failing schools. But all the Chads that tried at all in school and worked to get into at least somewhat decent colleges are married with kids, own nice homes and have good jobs. Interestingly, his older brother was a fairly troubled kid too, though not as bad. Was obsessed with this idea of being a good old boy redneck. Went to our state's cow college but dropped out. Finally finished his engineering degree and has had a career in construction. Still dresses/talks/acts like an inbred hick. There was some strange stuff going on in that family. |

Dropping out of cow college/third tier directional state u/obscene ripoff private u (that had zero prospects of post grad employment anyway) and moving back in with parents around age 20 was the median outcome for the stupid class of Chads at my high school. TBF all of them made it clear when they told everyone where they were going after senior year that their sole priority in college was maximizing binge drinking and they all executed that plan to perfection.
