All the details in the dark sections of the image are impossible to see now because everything is TRUE BLACK

it's a Technique issue, not a Tech issue. they just haven't developed a new Film Technique that suits the Technology.

music production went through something similar re: digital vs analog tape/gear. for 25 years after the advent of digital recording, people continued fetishizing old analog gear because digital sounded 'sterile' and shitty. but gradually producers/engineers developed appropriate new Technique that preserved the best of Analog effects while embracing the clarity of digital.

It's easy to fix. You don't need ultra-bright highlights, just shoot in normal contrast and add HDR effects in post-processing using AI

It used to be acceptable to film nighttime scenes with proper stylized lighting and it was perfectly fine and even better than whatever they do now which I guess is No Lighting so you can’t see anything. It’s more “realistic” or something.

It didn't matter with normal LED TVs because the whole screen got lit up during playback. OLED is the first technology where those portions of the image are totally unlit.

So for example the mall scenes in Back to the Future look horribly underexposed now. You really can't see any of the buildings at all.

I’ve watched game of thrones 20 times and I still don’t know what the fuck happened in the last season because it was so dark when they filmed it. @HBO
