Hypo: You must give up all entertainment media from before 2016 or after 2015

1. For the rest of your life, you cannot watch, play, listen to, etc. any Entertainment Media that was first published/released on or after January 1, 2016.
2. For the rest of your life, you cannot watch, play, listen to, etc. any Entertainment Media that was first published/released before January 1, 2016.
Entertainment Media means all books, short stories, movies, tv shows, sports broadcasts, video games, and music. It also means podcasts, radio programs, magazines, newspapers, and similar items when the primary intended use is entertainment--e.g., checking the weather would be OK; a sports column would not be OK.
You cannot watch (etc.) any re-releases, re-cuts, director's cuts, covers, etc. from outside your allowed time period, unless the new version is wholly distinct and different from the original.
For whichever restriction you choose, forbidden media will appear blank/null/nonexistant to you. E.g., if you choose 1, and and walk into a movie theater showing a movie released in 2026, you would see a blank screen. |

Date: June 8th, 2026 1:12 PM Author: cyan locus I tend to have vivid memories of everything I’ve experienced / internalize the life lessons needed and learn from them long term etc, so I’d fully commit to being a 21st Century-mo culturally, primarily because most of my favorite music is from the 2020s and modern AZN games look 180 even though I’ve been semi-retired from gaming since the time I discovered ZoZo circa 2012 (no idea if those 2 things are related). Last but not least, Im gay.

It would be too bad missing out on sports broadcasts and new movies and games with my kids.
Despite that, I'm picking 1 because there are more pre-2016 classics than any of us could consume and appreciate in any one lifetime. And, by and large, the pre-2016 media is better than the post-2016 media. So, I'd rather spend my life enjoying that. |

You would not hear walk up songs or music between quarters, etc., from outside your allowed time period. |

Before 1986 kills the bulk of viable video games (settle for some arcade or pinball), a lot of "fun" movies and a few classics, basically zero worthwhile books, and a lot of good music. That would be rough, but I think I'd still prefer the before. 1956 cuts out way more movies and music, with a few more books. I might choose this side of that line if that were the case. |
