Not from the midwest and never been to Ohio. All three sort of blend together in my mind as "the major cities in Ohio" but I know nothing beyond that.

That whole area is really nice. Might be the best value in the US for QOL if making $300-400k. Jones Day partner making $800k is king of the world.

Northeast Ohio (Cleveland) is a real rust-belt feeling city. Like Detroit and Chicago. They smelted a lot of steel there and it used to have a lot of people and jobs (relative to the rest of the USA). It has been in steady decline for 50+ years.

Cincinnati in the southwest corner of the state would be more of your traditional river port town like Pittsburgh or St Louis.

Columbus is smack dab in the middle of the state and has grown dramatically, pulling people from the rest of Ohio and the region. It’s a real growth story.

Not true at all. Indianapolis doesn’t have the college factor, which gives Columbus some energy and interesting shit. Indianapolis is like Columbus once you cut out all the chill college shit.

Weird. I knew Cincinnati and Cleveland from a very young age because of their professional sports teams (both cities have both an MLB and an NFL team) and knew nothing about Columbus other than the fact that Ohio State was there. I assumed it was small like Ann Arbor or Madison. Learning that Columbus is bigger than CLE and CIN blew my fucking mind like few other facts ever have.

Cincinnati was the first real major city in the country not on the east coast and was in top 5 population for most of the 1800s.

That history and original importance leaves it particularly suited as an interesting and quirky place more than pretty much anywhere in the Midwest.also why all the regional federal offices are based there.

I guess I just know the sixth circuit is in Cincinnati and one of the main IRS offices Obama used to target conservative groups.

There's a branch of the Cleveland fed in cincy.

totally different.

Cincinnati has real neighborhoods and interesting architecture. it feels way older than Cleveland, which kinda feels like a nicely revitalized but completely nouveau/fabricated downtown in the middle of shitty suburbs and decayed urban hell. Cleveland in turn feels way older than Columbus, which is just one giant suburb. All three are probably underrated in their own ways but only because Cleveland has a reputation as super shitty—it is pretty shitty but it does have its charm.

Generally agree on Cincy >>>> Cleveland, but one thing to consider is that Cleveland peaked in the late 19th century when it was in vogue for wealthy Americans to endow the arts, so Cleveland has better cultural amenities like museums, the symphony, etc.

No way did Cleveland peak in the late 19th century. Cincinnati peaked in the late 19th century.

Cleveland peaked in the 1920s-40s like Detroit and Pittsburgh.
