Precision like darts or trick basketball shots. It's not really athletic it's just honed in micro muscle tweaks

You need to walk nearly 6 miles in the course of the day. You need to shop a lot for perfect clubs if i read xo correctly. Golf threads are mainly about shopping

Of course. Does the average golfer look that much less athletic than Messi at 5'7''?

To me, golfers look about as athletic as a QB - which makes sense because they're both functions where you have to have amazing athletic ability but your mind, thinking and percision is more important than your measurables (as opposed to a WR or a cornerback where you're in a literally running race 30 times a game).

Look at Tiger Woods - he was never able to dominate after his injuries.

And as much as everyone mocks John Daly, at his peak he actually was pretty in shape.

It's kind of like arguing that football OL players aren't athletic - like they weigh 300 pounds and can outsprint 95% of all men....

Daly is a freak of nature athlete in terms of his combo of flexibility, coordination and strength/being fat.

Tiger also was a freak natural athlete in the early days and messed it up by overtraining trying to be an actual on paper athlete.

The average PGA pro is far less athletic than Sam DArnold or some middling athleticism NFL QB in terms of strength, speed, agility, etc. but the golf swing is incredibly technical and sort of non intuitive

Yeah the putting part (50% of golf) is obviously just like darts and billiards

The rest of it (walking 40k feet and swinging a 450 gram metal stick 30 times) probably requires less athleticism than snowboarding down a black diamond with moguls or free climbing some basic bitch mountain

Most pro golfers were/would have been dominant in another high school sport, but not D1 level.

That’s the kind of athleticism it requires to be the best. Then you also need 99.999 percentile hand eye coordination.

The naturally unathletic people (kids always picked last growing up) will never get to single digits.

Its no different than asking if baseball sluggers are athletic

Someone like Tom Watson or Craig Stadler is a better counter-factual than Daly

I don't get why people use Daly as the example of golfers being unathletic. Shaq's BMI during his peak Lakers days was definitely higher than Daly's BMI during his PGA wins
