If you are worried about the stability of the underclass though, cutting their reproduction seems very reasonable. This is pretty silly. I find it easy to believe that there is no fee that would allow Russian engineers or Chinese computer programmers in while simultaneously excluding Mexican drug mules or Saudi jihadis. That such a fee would be nice is no proof that one exists.
I.e., there is no straightforward correlation between cash on hand and desirability of the potential immigrant. This should be patently obvious. If there were, the government would practically have an obligation to price citizenship like lobster ("Today: $42,000.")
Basically this is a well-written but flawed undergrad think piece that somehow made it into a paper. Well, it beats the editorials in the Philly Enquirer. |

Developing nations see their decreasing populations as a problem, not a benefit. As our baby-boom population gets older, the youth, even with the increase we have gotten, will have a difficult time sustaining them. If people think 'illegals' are such a burden because they give nothing back, then they need to step outside the realm of pundit one-liners and realize that our economy would benefit from legalizing the vast majority of 'illegals.'
Also, income disparity between the rich and the poor is not caused by more poors, but rather by the very nature of capitalism. CEOs make 400x more than their employees, whereas in the past they made about 10x more. This has nothing to do with population size. It hurts me to hear lower-middle class strivers blame the poor for their struggles when they should be looking up at their superiors.
