What would happen if someone had a take-home final and posed the question to the XO discussion board, and the professor and/or other students saw it (and reported it to the prof)?

1. Would the prof have any way to find out who did it?

2. What would the prof do about the exam?

I'm certainly not thinking about doing this but just am curious about what would happen.

Why would someone do that? I don't think I'd want xoxo giving me advice on my takehome exam. Someone who was seriously interested in cheating would be much better off consulting a bright acquaintence who'd already taken the class, or collaborating with a classmate. I suspect that happens sometimes and there are policies that punish it, though I'm not sure if anyone ever gets caught doing it.

The people on this site actually seem pretty intelligent... I imagine they'd give good advice. Again, I'm not saying I'd do it. It just seems like an anonymous way to cheat, as opposed to consulting a classmates who could "out" you.

They're also pretty devious and not always inclined to be helpful. People have posted odd "hypothetical questions" around exam time in the past. They usually get some, um, interesting answers. I'd guess that a person who posted something that was obviously an exam would get an even worse reaction.

I've posted take home test questions on the board in the past and the posters always gave me the wrong answers. It was hs material too.

The only reason to post it would be if you were dumb enough to think xoxo would give you good content to include. If you were dumb enough to include that content, a subpoena would be unnecessary. The prof would compare YOUR fucking retarded answer with the ones you got off of xoxo and you'd be outed. HTFH. I wouldn't set your hopes on this exam too high, assuming basic deductive reasoning skills are a requirement.

my point is that basic logic answers the fucking question as to whether the prof could figure out who did it. I am chill, just not a lot of patience for stupidity.

In undergrad if it was a closed test, people would look up the topic in journals and stuff to get better analysis to work from. I'm sure one could do the same thing in law school.

Of course people cheat, but I hope that most people have more integrity than that. I didn't cheat on my take-home exam and still got an A, so either people at UVA suck at cheating or are mostly honest. I choose to believe it is the latter.
