In all fairness to the other Texas schools, I definitely get the impression that Baylor's curriculum and approach is all about the bar exam. In other words, it is a three year bar review course.

The impression is wrong, maybe fostered by bar results, maybe even from grads who say Baylor teaches 'practical law' rather than 'theory.' They do both - they just do it harder and meaner than anyone else. I actually ENJOYED BarBri because I felt like I was finally able to just LEARN something rather than being overloaded, over-stressed, sleep-deprived and beaten over the head with high expectations. I did not take Negotiable Instruments b/c it was not well taught - Baylor alums told me I would get what I needed from BarBri, and I did. What they do is demand, demand, demand - drop you a letter grade, throw you out of class for being unprepared, Socratic and required classes all the way through. Trusts & Estates, Fed. Tax, Legislative Administrative Process & Procedure -- I guarantee, THAT is never gonna be on the bar exam! T&E was brutal - but contained a lot of community property. Business Org was good on Agency, Confusing as hell on Corps., and again, we all need BarBri. They teach you to learn, study, think on your feet under tremendous pressure, use fear & humiliation as a teaching aid, and make you 100% miserable for 3 years. Now that I think about it, that in itself is pretty good prep for the bar, but not even close to 'teaching to the exam.

I'd have to hear it from others to believe it. You make it sound like Baylor is some sort of mental bootcamp and you may be drinking the Kool-Aid. Sort of Texas poor man's version of the intellectual atmosphere at U.Chicago. If what you say is true, wouldn't Baylor grads be in particular demand by the big firms? I'm not sure that is the case. But I could be wrong.

Not if firms think they are buying potential as opposed to knowledge.

Has for a long time, actually, which is why it, and UCLA, along with Vandy, are now ranked higher. Soon enough, GW will be as well.

"Schools like GW, W&L, Fordham, Vandy and UCLA now have better student stats."

What's truly pathetic is, over the last several years, UTTT has increased the limit on nonresidents enrolled at the school from 20% to 35%, and reduced the total incoming class size from about 575 to 401. Both measures were failed attempts to increase the school’s median stats. It’s funny how Texas’ peer schools (mentioned above) have managed to increase their medians over the same time period without making major adjustments to their admissions policies.

Hmmm.

Remember Leiter getting all excited about the increase in nonresident admissions?

Univ of Texas Law School to Nearly Double Non-Resident Admits

This will mostly be of interest to law school applicants for next year: For many years, my institution, the University of Texas School of Law, had an 80% in-state residency requirement on admissions (so only 20% of the class consisted of non-residents). Fortunately, Texas is a very big state (only California is bigger), and the pool has been quite strong. But because of the relatively high in-state residency requirement, we have had to turn away many highly qualified non-resident applicants each year. Starting next year, however, Texas will be able to admit up to 35% of the class from out-of-state. Given that even non-resident tuition at UT is well below tuition at our competitors (both private schools like Penn and Georgetown, and public schools like Boalt and Virginia), this is likely to be of special interest to many non-resident applicants next year.

Guess he buys into the top-14 now.

What's despicable exactly? Having a nearly 90% (which it pretty much as always be historically the case) pass rate??? Being statsitically nearly identical with other schools that teach the bar for three years? Or being below Baylor's 98% pass rate? Does any one choose to go to Baylor over UT? Is it a better education because they have a higher pass rate on the bar exam? Wow, those kids from Baylor must be smarter than all the Yalies and Harvards too then. Maybe it means you've surmised that the prospects of getting a market rate job are better all the schools that barely beat out UT this year - or Baylor which consistently does. . .

Yeah - I really regret going to that despicable rancid TTT graduating debt free with a job paying market. What an awful decision.
