But both of these games, Pokemon Snap even moreso, were pretty phoned in. I was stoked for a 3D Pokemon Game and then Pokemon Snap was utterly linear with one afternoon's worth of gameplay.
Although now that I reminisce, Hey You Pikachu! was like this also. |

any halfway advanced Atari game had to use software tricks to use these features for things they weren't designed to do. |

Basically Atari got the rights to the film in the summer of 1982 and wanted to cash in on the popularity by getting the game out for the Christmas season. That meant they had a handful of weeks (Wikipedia says 5 1/2) to make the game. It didn't end well--I've never played it, but I'm positive there's an emulator you can play somewhere online that captures the misery of the experience.

I was 8 and my dad took me to Toys 'R Us and let me pick a game. I remember him paying what I thought was a shitton for it (like $30 or something). I thought the cover art was cool and was a victim of the corporate marketing. I had no idea what the game was and assumed it was an action game like mario with spot characters.
I get the game home and its a stupid version of Reversi. It's then that I realized that you can't just trust the world and pick whatever game you want, some games suck shit. So I felt like an idiot for picking the game, and also trusted the world less. I also realized that corporations are scammers and marketing is a part of the scam. Finally, I realized that life is not fair, for a number of reasons, one of which being that a piece of shit game costs the same as a good game. Thanks 7-UP!
Actually kept the cartridge all these years and sold it recently on ebay to an asian guy for $8.
