I worked for $9 an hour at my first job after college. Things really are that bad if you aren't a programmer, engineer, or HYP. Even now I only make $36,000, and I'm pretty happy with that.

No, it's a good gig. I was a training school prole when I first came over, making like $20,000 a year, but only working 25 hours a week. Then I found this job, where I'm actually learning to be a teacher and not a dancing monkey. It is really decent money for the city I live in, and management is good. I could work here for 5 more years easy, but I'm trying to change fields to earn a little more cash. This time next year I want to be a full time web developer.

The school is affiliated with their home country's government, so management is decent. I'm not a citizen of that country though, so I don't get the pension. The other teachers do.

Tier 2 China is not too expensive if you live conservatively. I don't pay rent at the moment, but even if I did I would only be paying $250 a month. I live comfortably, but altogether spend less than $1,000 USD a month on food, clothes, going out, etc.

according to the chart above the average college grad earns just a hair under 50k a year so...

it's also the same chart I'm using to talk about 25 percentile so, if you're gonna use a different source. . .

that's the average RECENT college grad, which is probably closer to 25th percentile than it is to median college grad wages. $16.81 for a recent college grad is probably not too far from historic averages. Looking at the chart above we really aren't too far from the average wage. People who are earning shit right now are earning shit because that's what they're worth, not because the economy is fucked.

and for the record even the article talks about wages being down, but by less than 10%. Even if things were the best they'd ever been average college grad wages would be far under what we think of as acceptable (less than $20 an hour).

i mean such low paying jobs are common for college grads they always have been. i feel like a lot of college grads just aren't used to taking the time and effort to really find a high quality job. i mean just taking that steps should be able to lead to something more meaningful. i feel like all people across at least a few generations are used to having a path laid out for them. I mean after all that's how high school and college worked. It's just a continuation of that. He should really try to put himself out there more and not just settle for this job for too long. He keeps this job for too long, it'll be tied to his worth and earning power the rest of his life.

By not living like a big lawyer? Most people have extremely low expectations. Or, put another way, most people have normal expectations and you are just out of touch.

I'm not saying I would be happy with it. But I went to a top 25-ish school and know many people who started around that number. Get some perspective dude. Not everyone goes into finance or biglaw.

many entry level shitlaw and public law jobs pencil out to like $15-$20 an hour if you stretch the salary over the actual number of hours worked. biglaw doesn't even come out that well as an hourly for most people.

there are construction workers and other union laborers who can just put in extra hours and pwn the majority of lawyers with total cash compensation.

Not at all. The 10 per hour was as a project assistant (basically an assistant to paralegals). 15 per hour was shitlaw clerk. They raised it to 20 per hour after year. I actually still work on the side for them all these years later for 50 an hour now.

Weird flame considering the vast majority of college grads, including many from "elite schools," end up working for the same or less.

Sorry, going to get that master's degree at GWU after Penn is not hiding the fact that you couldn't even get a $14/hr job; I am not even considering them in my original point, but believe me, they also couldn't do any better.

OP is probably flame.
