This is the problem-- we've diluted the credential so much that there's lots of people running around with meaningless degrees. And employers make college degrees a requirement as a way of filtering candidates, so now you need a BA to be the manager at Chili's.
This is similar to the fallacy of "just make everybody a homeowner." Just because somebody is nominally a college graduate or a homeowner or whatever doesn't mean that they'll achieve the same good results that people had before the definition was diluted. Only a matter of time before a master's degree is now semi-mandatory to work as a secretary. |
