Bluecross/Blueshield (I'm an independent contractor, so I pay my own health insurance)

2010 (??) - 2011 - approximately $105/mo

2012 - $116/mo

2013 - $156/mo

2014 - $186/mo

2015 - $202/mo

Other than a few dermatology visits, I've never even used my health insurance. I just got notice that Bluecross is canceling my entire policy as of Dec 31, 2015, so now I need to get another health insurance policy. Thanks for nothing, Obama.

If you're young, healthy, and don't qualify for a subsidy, get ready for your premiums to DOUBLE for an equal shitbamacare plan. You were lucky to get your old one grandfathered for a while.

I had a blue cross that was probably a lot like yours (I was paying $190ish in 2014) and getting a PPO with the same deductible was about $370 looking on the exchanges. Basically to pay the same I would have to drop to an HMO and more than double the deductible.

If you have to get shitbamacare, you're probably best off getting the absolute cheapest policy and treating it as catastrophic insurance . . . the out of pocket max will cover you on really serious shit but minor stuff you'll end up paying for entirely yourself.

Was a significant reason I decided to get a real job.

I love how this was sold as helping small business owners gain access to insurance, yet unless you have an etsy hemp bracelet business clearing $12k/yr it dramatically raises premiums.

It's another tax.

$750/mo here for a high-deductible plan for me, wife, and kid. (Wife and I are both contractors.)

I haven't been to the doctor myself in years. Our out of pocket for childbirth was still almost $10K.

1. The good medical groups and centers around me don't take the more expensive, regular Obamacare plans. (And even the one that we did get isn't accepted by the largest local medical group.)

2. It allows me to have an HSA.

3. It's still net less expensive.

Still covers all the basic shit at zero copay, but emergency room or whatever would be at $3K deductible/20%, but employer sticks in $500 a year into some HSA which can grow year to year. I put another $500 into the plan. So, as long as nothing major happens in the next 2 years, I'm covered.
