This was the way in which "out-groups" and disaffected people could protest against the dominant Western paradigm. With the West's triumph over Communism, Islam remains as the only major philosophy/culture that still resists Western philosophy and the market economy.
Still, we cannot dismiss the religion itself as a cause for extremism. The hardcore disaffected leftists of yesteryear (and today) weren't suicide bombers and were mostly peaceful. |
