i understand rooting for an orthodox candidate and if things don't turn out well, you can hold up your hands and say "oh well, don't blame me."
but if you're passionately cheering for an unpredictable disrupter against all conventional wisdom and expert consensus, and he turns out to be a HORRIBLE president, wouldn't you feel extra bad? not only in a moral sense, but wouldn't you feel fucking embarrassed to walk around in society knowing that you went against the grain to help usher in the worst period in american history? wouldn't you have to constantly bow your head in shame if that were to occur?

i addressed that in my OP.
i doubt anyone feels acute regret for supporting GWB because it was something of a default choice.
but if you support an outsider against the loud and repeated warnings of the old guard, how could you look your children in the eyes and tell them that daddy shouted and screamed and stamped his feet for a man who bankrupted this country and caused a catastrophic war?

u mean the same establishment which rubber stamped our disastrous iraq war and libya shit?
if establishment warnings are to be taken seriously then they need to have a positive track record first to establish credibility
so at this point their opinion is useless. also Trump is very isolationist if you actually pay attention and the best choice from the GOP side if you dont want some neocon bullshit. Remember neocon fgts like Lindsey Graham, Rubio, McCain literally want to go war with Russia over Ukraine and u r complaining abt Trump who actually wants to work with Russia?

EXCUSE ME. EXCUSE ME.
But to the extent that you had any credibility before, you squandered it by implicitly asserting that "throwing your lot behind Bernie" is a variant of "upholding the status quo, with substantial improvements." Hillary Clinton is the status quo. Ted Cruz is the status quo. Rubio isn't exactly the status quo, but he likely wouldn't deviate too far from it. Sanders/Trump are not. Both are agitating for radical departures from it, although the specifics are quite different.
So fine-- suppose that Trump wins, but the efforts to keep aflame the historically anomalous light of civilization are futile and we are either overrun by some sort of foreign menace or simply regress to a dark age driven by the left's insistence that we treat all identity politics as a Hobbesian war of all against all. That would be awful but, some day, should our descendants exceed us in the way that we have exceeded a fallen Rome, our story will be that we tried rather than fiddled. If we are destined to fall, then I can think than I can think of no better burial shroud than the endeavor to reclaim greatness.

This is a poor dichotomy. It's actually about whether to uphold the status quo, with substantial improvements (you could vote democrats, or throw your lot behind bernie) versus taking a HUGE gamble that all conventional signs are saying will NOT pay off, but you insist on forging ahead because you're relying more on your gut. So when the gamble fails catastrophically, as predicted, and your gut was wrong, it should and will cut you to your core.

Great entertainment either way.
I really hope Trump goes to DC with his ax swinging.

I'm going to look at my kids in the eye and say:
"When I was your age, the world was run by a small cabal of evil, rootless cosmopolitan globalists. These people sold out the heart, soul, riches, resources, and national character of their countries to the lowest bidder. They encouraged men to fight women and vice versa, and destroyed the nuclear family so they could create a labor surplus. The encouraged uneducated, low-iq, violent people to move to prosperous, peaceful countries so they could save a little bit of money on labor costs. They believed in nothing, and they owned all the channels of public communication, and filled it with nonstop propaganda. They publically shamed, and threatened the lives and livelihoods of anyone who opposed their plans.
A man came along, and promised to put an end to this. I knew that our society couldn't survive anymore, and this was our only opportunity to right the ship. Unfortunately, he failed, and now China is the major power on earth. But son... If I had not voted for him, our country would look like Sweden by now."
And he would ask: "but dad, what is Sweden? I have never heard of such a country."
And I would say: "Exactly."
