At my biglaw firm billing over 2000 is pretty much job security for another year. Layoffs come after people conspire to stop feeding you work. |

Expert designation deadlines were today so everyone filed something. After hearing about all the layoffs on xoxo, I had my paralegal create a spreadsheet comparing all of the signature blocks on the expert designations to the signature blocks on previous pleadings, and had him check firm websites for any missing names. From this, I was able to deduce that of the ~20 biglaw firms, 14 of them had laid off a total of 22 associates. Of course, some of them may have lateraled, but the prior sig blocks weren't very old.
