The popular conception of the Dark Web is mostly BS. It's not really all, or even mostly, 'scary' criminal type stuff. It's just stuff that's hidden from search engines for whatever reason. Maybe 5% of it is the kind of stuff you're imagining. |

drug dealers/marketplaces and child pornographers had a big presence, but there were also forums for anarchists and (wannabe) hackers, sites which were almost certainly scams/stings advertising hitmen, counterfeit money sellers, a site which claimed to let you donate Bitcoin to fund Al-Qaeda cells in the USA, and a couple weirdos hosting sites with their manifestos about w/e crazy shit they believed. the really, really bad criminals were almost certainly on private sites which will not be found as easily as just going to r/onions and looking at the recommended links |
