1) Ride on the street most of the time, if you need to ride on the sidewalk for safety reasons for parts of the ride, slow the fuck down. If there are people anywhere on the sidewalk, slow down so that you are going no faster than a brisk walking pace.
2) Leave them standing up with the kickstand on near the curb and parallel to the street. Do not block the sidewalk.
I don't give a shit about helmets - people can get hurt if they want. But these two rules would make these things fine for everyone and reduce most complaints. |

Entire families and groups of friends using them because of lack of parking and too much traffic by car. You cannot walk around Santa Monica on a weekend without getting run over by them.
As for commuting, I see a fair number of people using them for commute in century city and west side (people who would live 1-5 miles from the office). |
