I am super open to leads and advice on how to pursue work outside of academia. But I do not enjoy math, so qual methods preferred. And “start your own business” advice will never appeal to me, as someone who watched both of my self-employed parents struggle w the hustle for life

Okay. We gotta be honest with each other here. You hold non-STEM degrees from third rate institutions. Honestly, even with a PhD, you’ll find it hard. At the very least, top 50/100 QS ranked unis would get you somewhere.

I wouldn’t call Stony Brook third rate. It’s an R1 en par with UC Davis. I agree that pedigree matters but I take issue with the individualism in your framing. First gen ppl may not have the guts to apply to Ivies even if they have the GPA and that limits every school thereafter

1) academia is a hamster wheel that no matter what your position/pay grade/pub list, you'll always feel 2nd rate (well, if yr a woman); 2) you have kids? you didnt do your 20s wrong...

For the benefit of trans people who didn’t already unfollow me- I want to repeat and emphasize that I am truly sorry I wrote a tweet that conflated gender with genitalia. It was careless and it hurt you. And I am sorry. I hope you accept my apology so we can move forward. (1/4)

People have mentioned my defensiveness. I cannot be convinced that this person who screenshotted my old tweet & then a DM between us was acting out of a space of caring abt trans rights. She derailed my tweet w a personal attack for fun. I defended myself against a bully. (2/4)

And while I am truly sorry about the cissexism in the offensive tweet, I take issue with the fairly massive accusation of transphobia based on a linguistic slip. Hence why I asked if the accuser had read my work. I think it’s clear that I am not transphobic. They hadn’t. (3/4)

I am grateful to people who point out when I mess up, if it isn’t done performatively and centered around the public shaming of me and discrediting my corpus. None of this is going to help trans rights. That’s all ego.

Not financial. Hubby's a good earner. I'd like to have a plan for financial independence for when he dies though. But hopefully that's awhile off (he's 14 years older)
