no joke. she was pushing a stroller.
to compound the surreality, she was standing in the frozen foods aisle.

didn't notice.
she posts a lot (or used to) on this SF website called Yelp, which is a ratings site for local restaurants, bars, shops.
as of the tragedy, her tagline is "31 year old widow"

"My Favorite Movie
match point"
The story is a fable about the role that luck plays in determining everyone's destiny. As protagonist Chris Wilton notes in an opening voice-over:
The man who said "I'd rather be lucky than good" saw deeply into life. People are afraid to face how great a part of life is dependent on luck. It's scary to think so much is out of one's control. There are moments in a match when the ball hits the top of the net and for a split second it can either go forward or fall back. With a little luck it goes forward and you win. Or maybe it doesn't and you lose.

Check this one out:
Baby's first Christmas and no Daddy to play Santa is a real downer. My trip down South turned sour when a certain grieving in-law's sadness turned to anger and I was forced to find alternate accomodations. At first, the thought of loading up the children, the gifts, and the holiday joy and heading to a hotel was nearly incapacitating. However, my parents saved the day by driving out from New Mexico and renting a fantastic set of adjoining rooms to save my sanity and my children's Christmas. Things took a turn for the better when Aunties and Uncles showed up to spread good cheer. Plus, the hotel is equipped with a heated pool and a hot tub. This isn't the Regis, but it's good enough for me; and I can't wait to wake up to a Christmas morning swim!
Minus one star for no vegetarian dinner option at the adjoining restaurant.

I assume the "angry" in-law is James' dad. Editorial here:
http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2007/01/14/INGC7N6NFT1.DTL
Note that he lives in Thousand Oaks, CA, which is near where she was visiting.
He's probably pissed off at this bit of the story, as recounted by James' wife:
"At nearly the same moment that they started past the sign, it began snowing and they ran across snow on the road. James wanted to turn around on the road but Kati thought it was too dangerous given how narrow the road was combined with the darkness and the steep sides."

I'm not surprised. In Korean culture, once the husband dies, the wife becomes unwelcome in the husband's family. Widows and their children are treated like shit, basically. Couple that with the fact that she's a whitey... James Kim's family probably hates her guts, even though her husband's death wasn't her fault.
Yeah I know, Korean culture is fucked up.

She doesn't need the kims anymore. James Kim already got millions from his millionaire airline executive dad to open up 2 stores in SF. The funny thing is that James Kim's wife is still accepting donations from people much, much poorer than her LOL
