Well, Usenet and its newsgroups are. Why? Because Usenet is a global, distributed internet discussion system, and once something is posted in a newsgroup on one of the servers, it is almost instantaneously duplicated on thousands of additional servers around the world. It is nearly impossible to delete a message once it has gone out. Lawyers can however go after an individual poster --- if they can identify him/her.
Case in point: The "church" of scientology had a devil of a time trying to stiffle posts (to alt.religion.scientology) containing information it considered proprietary and/or damaging. Unable to take on Usenet, they tried to go after individual posters, but that was frequently difficult or impossible because many posters had wisely used multiple remailers when posting such information to usenet. End result: wide dissemination of materials scientology considered sensitive and wanted suppressed.
